Njisane Phillip courageous ride in the Men's Keirin Final on Sunday at the Pan Am Games saw just being edged at the line into 5th place.
Phillip, however, the aggressor of the final, took to the front with 2 laps (500m) remaining, leaving all to change. As Fabian Puerta (COL), Hersony Canelon (VEN), Hugo Barrette (CAN), Leandro Botasso (ARG) and Jair Tjon En Fa (SUR) chased, Phillip kept increasing in speed to hold them off.
With less than 100m to go, Phillip still held the lead as a mad rush of Puerta, Canelon, Barrette and Botasso came over the top, passing Njisane with 10m remaining.
With the Keirin finished, it also brings the end of T&T's track cycling medal hunt while Emile Abraham will take part in the Men's Road Time Trial and Road Race on the 22nd and 25th July respectively. The track cyclists will now return to their respective training bases as they now turn their focus to the Elite Pan American Track Championships in Santiago, Chile from 2-6 September. The Pan Am Championships also serves as the 6th of 10 Olympic qualification events.
