2016 promises to be an action packed year of racing!
With the opening of the National Cycling Centre and the Irwin Park Sporting Complex soon, the Racing Committee has been proactive in setting specific events at the respective facilities. The National Track Championships for Elite and Juniors is expected to take place at the National Cycling Centre with focus being placed on the selection of a National team for the 2nd Annual Caribbean Track Championships which will also be hosted in Trinidad at the end of May.
The 333m track at the refurbished Irwin Park will also see major action as it is expected to hosts two National Track Championships; in April for Masters and Juveniles and then in July for the Youth Championships. The decision to remove the Juveniles from the Youth Championships was determined to be key in developing our Juvenile cyclists and exposing them to more UCI structured events. This move will therefore better prepare them for events such as the Junior Pan American Championships. There is also a call to allow final year Juveniles to compete as Juniors at the National Track Championships one week later; a request that is currently being discussed by the Racing Committee.
Mountain Bike will also have a full Calendar with the TTCF MTB Series returning and a special MTB Eliminator Test Event to be hosted in January. The Eliminator is an exciting version of Mountain Bike racing which mixes the action of a Track Elimination, Criterium Cycling and tough MTB courses.
