The date has been set for the much anticipated Beacon Cycling on the Avenue 4 – Wednesday 7th October.  Once again the Avenue will be the place to see and be seen as Local and International Cyclists compete for top honours and $70,000 in cash prizes and primes.  The start / finish line is at Mike’s Bikes on Ariapita Avenue.  The event begins at 7:30 PM with the 200 Meter Sprint International and Invitational; and concludes with the 30 (plus) lap Main Event (International, Elite and Invitational).  There are also events for Juveniles, Juniors, Masters and Ladies.

Beacon has been associated with Cycling for over 18 years, sponsoring many of the Cycling events organized by Michael Phillips.  This type of partnership is an excellent example of how Corporate Trinidad & Tobago can positively affect the development of Sport, as this and other related events have contributed to the re-birth and growth of Cycling over the years.

“The key to a cyclist’s success is the opportunity to compete.  The more exposed our local cyclists are to International Competition in our local events is the better prepared they are when they compete abroad.  The involvement of Corporate Trinidad & Tobago at events such as this can significantly improve the chances of our National Cyclists medaling at the Olympic Games” stated Michael Phillips, Managing Director of Phillips Promotions and Mike’s Bikes, the promoter of the event.

Nisa Dass, Manager of Corporate Marketing and Communications at Beacon presented Michael Phillips with a cheque for $350,000 representing Beacon’s Title Sponsorship of Cycling on the Avenue and supporting sponsorship for other Phillips Promotions’ events in the next year such as the Michael Phillips Republic Day Cycling Classic, Mike’s Bikes Big Ride to Salybia, NLCB Jungle Jackpot MTB Race and the Mike’s Bikes MTB Revolution. Ms. Dass stated that “We stand by the belief that sport is one of the most successful avenues for personal growth and creates well-rounded, disciplined individuals who can contribute to the positive development of our communities. It is for this reason that our shareholders  remain committed to the success of this and many other sporting events”

Jamol Eastmond (Barbados) will be hoping to retain his title as winner of the main event against Yondi Schmidt (Netherlands) who will be contesting.  Top local Elite Cyclists such as Adam Alexander and Emile Abraham will also be competing.  Amongst the women, Teneil Campbell, Gold Medalist in the Caribbean Road Championships is the local favourite.  Tyler Cole, also a Gold Medalist in the Caribbean Road Championships is expected to dominate the Juvenile category.

Beacon Cycling on the Avenue 4 is free to the public.  It promises to be yet another action-packed evening of Cycling at its best.
