T&T suffers Jr Worlds injury blow

Tuesday, August 18 2015

Budding junior sprinter, Keiana Lester, received disappointing news earlier today after she was informed by medical personnel in Astana, Kazakhstan that she would have to be withdrawn from the Junior World Track Cycling Championships.

Lester, who travelled to Astana on Thursday, was at a training session this morning at the Saryarka Velodrome when she complained of pains to her side. Further evaluations by doctors confirmed Lester’s worst fears. The requirements from the doctors were to avoid strenuous exercises to prevent any further damage.

Lester recently commented, "I feel so disappointed that something like this would happen the day before I had to race. It's so hard. I trained basically everyday for the last 3 months (after Jr Pan Ams) and then this happened." Still in good spirits she also commented in a hashtag format "Repping 868 from the Stands".

Without Lester, T&T’s hope for a medal in the Women’s Team Sprint have been dashed as the pair would have to be withdrawn from that event.

Therefore, Kollyn St. George will now make her debut on Thursday in her pet event, 500m Time Trial on Thursday. The reigning Junior National and Pan American champion and triple record holder in the 500m Time Trial will be fancying her chances of medaling in this event. Sei Daniel will also be looking to climb the podium when the Keirin Junior Pan Am bronze medalist lines up in the Keirin on Thursday as well.

We wish Keiana a speedy recovery as we know you are a fighter and you will return even faster. We also wish both Sei and Kollyn the best of luck!
